I love anything Disney and when that brand joins up with a watch, I am all keen to know more. Ingersoll 1892 has been doing a co-branding with Disney since 1933. The one that I have for a few years now is the 30's Collection Watch. That watch is truly magical.Historically, the first Ingersoll Disney watch was produced in 1933 where it featured Mickey Mouse on the dial with a seconds sub-dial. It was a marketing success and by 1957, 25 million of such timepieces was sold (Mr. Walt Disney was presented with the 25 millionth Ingersoll Disney watch that year).
Unlike the original designs, this particular version (the ID00201) is more sedated with normal hands and without a seconds sub-dial. The only thing that gives it away as a Disney timepiece is a rather unobtrusive and nonchalant Mickey Mouse leaning against the 9 o'clock marker with both hands and legs crossed.
In all honesty, this purchase was purely opportunistic. I didn't plan to get it but when I saw it, I just can't let go.
Each timepiece from this limited edition range has been individually numbered to highlight its uniqueness. With a maximum of just 500 examples each, I got number 105. A unique confirmation of the limited edition range is the steel plate used as the authentication card. Sized like a credit card, using steel instead of plastic makes it an interesting feature in itself.
Apart from the ID00201, there is also the ID00202 which is gold plated.

The Casing
This watch is a dress watch. It has a traditional design with a crown located at 3 o'clock. The stainless steel surface is polished and measures 40 mm (without the crown). Lug-to-lug is approximately 47 mm and the height is 14 mm. It appears to be rather tall but this is because of the dome crystal. Meanwhile, lug width is stated at 21 mm but by my own measurement, it is 22 mm.
The Dial
The chapter ring is straight wall and polished to a mirror finish. The dial surface has a sunburst silver texture with a flat top dome structure. The slight slope at the edge of the dial is acentuated by the black minute markers at the periphery. Diamond shape for every 5th minute and normal line for the rest are painted in black directly on the dial. Next comes the primary hour markers. Applied faceted rectangular golden markers have been added for all hours except for 12 o'clock and 3 o'clock. For the 12 o'clock position, an Arabic numeral, also golden, is used instead. For the 3 o'clock position, apart from a partial rectangular golden marker, a split day and date aperture in a golden frame are added as well.
To ensure consistency with the silvery coloured dial, the day and date wheels uses black digits and letters over white background. For the day complication, two languages were given as an option; Spanish or English. I don't think there are other combination apart from this.
There are only two lines of texts on the dial; the brand (top half) and the word "AUTOMATIC" (bottom half). The Mickey Mouse drawing at 9 o'clock is the obvious definitive link between Ingersoll 1892 and Disney. The rather simple and small painting of the iconic Disney character is actually very powerful especial for a dress watch that don't want to be seen as being too 'silly'.
The leaf hands are golden as per the markers. As this is a dress watch, there are no luminous paint on the hands or markers.
The dial is protected by a dome mineral glass. I was informed by the AD that Ingersoll 1892 does sell glass protection film (similar to that available for hand phone screens). I did not opt for it though.
The push-in & push-out crown is located at the 3 o'clock position. It is approximately 5 mm wide with gear-like tooth on the sides with a sterile top surface.
The watch comes with a display case-back. The case-back is a screw-down and via the window you can see the automatic movement. You can also see some important information about the watch such as the type of steel used (316L), the water rating (5 ATM or 50 meters), a Disney approved product and the special limited edition serial (105/500).
The watch is paired with a black leather strap signed by Ingersoll 1892. The original specification noted a lug width of 21 mm but in reality it is 22 mm when measured. The signed buckle is unique.
The Movement
I was made to understand that the movement used on the Ingersoll 1892 ID00202 is a Japanese movement with used 21 jewels with hand winding capable but without hacking function. Coupled with the quick-setting day and date complications, I suspect the movement is a Miyota Caliber 820A which operates on a 21,600 BPH and with a running time of 42 hours.
However, one need to make sure not to set the Date between 9:00 pm and 1:00 am as well as not to set the Day between 1:00 am and 4:30 am. In between these times, the two complications may not work properly. To adjust the day and date, pull out the crown to the first position. Turning clockwise will adjust the Day, turning counter-clockwise will adjust the Date.
The movement manufacturer has guaranteed an accuracy of between -20 seconds per day (SpD) and ＋40 SpD. Above is a photo of the said movement. Do note that the actual movement uses a day wheel with English and Spanish options (in the image above, it is English and Kanji). I was also able to test the accuracy of the movement straight out of the box. Using the Toolwatch app, it reported an accuracy of +13.5 SpD. This is well within the accuracy range provided by Miyota.
The Wearing Experience
The watch wears like any typical dress watch off that size. The leather is stiff straight from the box but with constant wearing, it will start to soften.
As highlighted earlier, it is very difficult to see the Disney connection unlike other collaborations with Disney where the hands are actually Mickey Mouse's hands. One need to be very close to the watch to take note of the small leaning Mickey Mouse.
If you are a Disney fan, this is one item that you should try to get. It not as cartoonish as the original designs. This is a proper refined dress watch and is a keeper in my view. Below is a video of the watch on my wrist.
The Purchasing Experience
I did not have the intention of getting this watch. It so happened that I was walking and exploring the 1Utama Mall which has becomes the biggest mall in Malaysia as well as the 7th largest mall in the world (at the point of writing this review). Suddenly, I saw an Ingersoll 1892 kiosk and went to investigate.My eyes caught the glimpse of the Disney theme watch and I just had to have it.
The AD also gave a Ingersoll automatic watch winder with a key that can put up to 2 watches on the turntable and 2 display watches in slots with cushions.
Although I am rather pleased with the gift, I don't put any of my watches on watch winders anymore. I guess I may put it up for sale soon.
