Seiko Brightz Starwars Yoda LE SDGC013 - A Noticeable Watch, A Review

In 2012, in conjunction to the 35th anniversary of the Star Wars, Seiko, in collaboration with Lucas Film issued six limited edition models. Launched on October 12th, 2012, the models come in various form from mechanical to quartz/analog/radio control and quartz/active matrix EPD/radio control variants.

I got a thing with anything green and the Yoda version (SDGC013) was my obvious first choice. As the whole series is a limited edition production run, the price is high. The list price for this particular model is YEN136,500 yen or RM4,282 (@ 16 January 2014).

Like the name suggest, this particular model commemorates the character Yoda in the movie. This character is associated with the colour green. There is an engraving on the side of the case using the Star Wars universe "Aurebesh" language with the name of the character. Apart from that, a motif of the character is painted on the transparent case-back of the watch.

The Seiko Star Wars Yoda come in 41.7 mm wide and 12.4 mm thick steel case with the 6R21 automatic mechanical movement. It has a unique looking metallic green dial and electric green colored "light saber" seconds hand. This model gets a Rebel Alliance logo on the dial as well as the famous "May the force be with you" on the back of the watch.

The dial is protected by sapphire crystal with hard coating.

The 6R21 automatic mechanical movement uses 29 jewels and has an accuracy rated at +25 seconds to -15 seconds difference per day. Water resistant is limited to 100 meters. It has the time, date, day of the week, and power reserve indicator on the dial. It has hand winding and second-hand stopping capabilities. Power reserve is approximately 45 hours.

This is a limited edition of just 600 watches worldwide. It weighs in at 165 gm.

The top of the crown sits a green stone. I believe it is a sapphire crystal with a green tint for effect.

You can also see the solid stainless steel bracelet that uses the fold-over push-button deployant clasp.

In the next picture is the "Aurebesh" language engraving that spells "Yoda" once translated.

The green dial on the watch has a unique 'fingerprint'-like texture if seen close up. The symbol the the old Republic is also printed on the date sub-dial.

On the case-back, the semi-transparent case back with the image of Yoda and his famous quote can be seen.

The bracelet bridge is machined from a block of stainless steel. Looks expensive.

The watch rides low on the hands and is well suited for formal functions.

The clasp. From this angle there appear to be spacing which could imply poor manufacturing tolerances. However, this is not so. In fact the connection is solid.

The green on the watch makes this a very noticeable watch. A very good conversational piece especially if you talking to a Star Wars fan.
